Case Study: S5 to S7 Conversion
A throw back to a project from the not-so-distant past, but one we thought reminding you all about as it demonstrates our ability to take on technically complex challenges and deliver with a minimum of client disruption.
Whilst the humble Siemens S5 was once the backbone for a lot of industries it has long since been discontinued by Siemens. Despite this there are still a significant number of installations in the UK and beyond held together by this platform.
But technology evolves and it’s time to put this reliable old workhorse out to pasture. We completed the upgrade of an obsolete Siemens S7-400 CPU and communications cards, whist swapping out an old S5 rack to the latest Siemens ET200MP remote IO racks, utilising proprietary wiring looms to significantly reduce the risk and time on site.
Performing brain surgery on the clients central nervous control system was executed seamlessly thanks to the preparation and testing beforehand resulting in completion well within the shutdown window we were given.
